Plans for the summer

In just a few days the children break up for the summer holidays. The last few years have seen quite poor weather that has prevented us from making the most of our break. This year though, wow, the sun is well and truly out. It has really lifted my spirits and I am excited to spend time doing fun things together as a family rather than being stuck inside, with everyone glued to their phones, lamenting the never ending rain. With that in mind I have made a list of our plans for the summer in the hope that we can make the most of the glorious weather.

Our plans for the summer

Check out our plans for the summer. Since the weather is so glorious at the moment we really want to make the most of it.

Out and about…

  • Go on holiday! I’m really looking forward to this because it may be the last family holiday we take with OJ, who is 19 and getting too cool to do things like this with his folks now!
  • Use our National Trust card. Membership of the National Trust is a really cost effective way of visiting their properties and it always makes for a fun family day out.
  • Visit Bosworth water park  in Warwickshire. They have great man made beaches. It’s a wonderful way to spend the day ‘at the beach’ without having to travel to the actual seaside.
  • Go to the zoo or a Sea Life centre. Peanut recently went on a school trip to the zoo and had a blast. I want in on the action, why should the kids have all the fun?

Closer to home…

  • Play tennis and basket ball. We have courts that are free to use at the bottom of the road and it would be a shame not to utilise them.
  • Fun in the garden. I’d like to get some new garden toys and really make the most of the space we have.
  • Ride our bikes. If I can get hold of a bike basket we can go on a picnic too.
  • Have a water fight. Because that’s what summer’s all about, am I right?

Just in case…

because let’s face it we cannot rely on the great British weather!

  • Make a stop motion video. Junior makes great stop motion videos and I think it would be cool if he could teach me and we can work on them together.
  • Go to the cinema. There’s some great films out at the moment that we’d all like to see.
  • Take a family photo. I’ve lots of pictures of the kids individually or in groups of two but very few of all four together. Bribery may have to be used to achieve this.
  • Go to Ikea. A strange one this but the kids love a trip to Ikea. They love the room set ups and go giddy at the kitchen storage solutions. And meatballs. Worth a trip in itself for those I think.

I hope that we get to accomplish most, if not all, of the things on this list. If we do it will surely be a wonderful summer and we will make some fantastic memories to look back on when the weather undoubtedly changes!

What are your plans for the summer?

Lol, to be honest we’re doing more from the ‘just in case’ list at the moment. Who stole the sun?

Sounds like you’ve got some great plans! We’re heading to Venice next week and London in a few weeks. Then we’ve got BP’s birthday on the 15th. Have a great one Louisa! xx

Fingers crossed that the weather improves from this week – it hasn’t been the greatest start to the summer holidays. Lots of lovely ideas for your summer though. I love the idea of doing stop motion animation and NT membership is great for being able to explore lots of different places. #WotW

We’re going to Wales next week so hope to visit some NT properties whilst there. Currently praying to the heavens for some sunshine to accompany us!

I’m always tempted to get a NT membership but I’m never actually sure if we are able to make the most of it since my husband only gets one day off a week, with other commitments we’d only get to a few NT properties a year.

I think because it is normally so expensive for a family to visit that your membership card pays for itself if you use it twice and subsequent visits are essentially free

Some good ideas – reminds me that I need to get NT membership as we are moving to the countryside and will hopefully be visiting several new places 🙂

Lovely ideas. I need to make a list of things we want to do, as I know time will just zip by once the holidays start.

Six weeks sounds so long in theory but seems so much shorter in reality doesn’t it?

Sounds like some great plans. We have a tennis court and basket ball hoop down the road from us too, you have reminded me of something else we can do 🙂 Have fun.

Fabulous list of things to do in the summer time. My favorite is the trip to Ikea – guess I’m a shopper, browser at heart. #PoCoLo

Lol. You can easily make a trip to Ikea into a family day out and buy some new things into the bargain

  10. 21st July 2017 / 2:31 PM

Love the National Trust! I love making videos and so many skills are used. Ikea is also cool, especially with a family card in the cafe. #PoCoLo

I’m glad you said that about Ikea. I’m planning a ‘day out’ there over the summer, too. I’m hoping the kids will enjoy it as much as yours do!

My kids go giddy in the kitchens for some reason, but they adore it, hope yours do too.

I love planning especially when the plans involve lots of fun. It sounds like you have a fun packed summer ahead. What is it about kids and Ikea, they treat it like a day out but I think the place is like hell on earth ! Bosworth sounds brilliant wish we had something like that locally. Have a lovely summer ! #WotW

Bosworth is a great idea, it’s nice play in the sand and water without having to take a long journey.

  15. 19th July 2017 / 10:35 PM

Sounds like some lovely summer plans. We have a NT membership and it is useful for always having somewhere to visit – they do great events too. The kids have done a “bucket list” of things they want to do in the holidays. Fingers crossed for lots of sun so we can tick them off! x

Our closest place is great for walking the dogs and getting a change of scenery, membership has been worth it for this in itself!

  16. 18th July 2017 / 11:32 PM

It does feel like a better summer weather-wise. I love your list. Do all those and you really will have made some memories for the children (and you). I want to make the most of our NT membership too and be more active this year. Fingers crossed that the weather holds.

The weather has been very changeable in the first 3 days of the holidays but looks to be picking back up again. I really want to make the most of it before the kids are too old and cool to spend it with their old mum.
