Be careful what you wish for

I think we are all guilty at times of making wishes. Big wishes and small wishes. Unrealistic hopes for a lottery win and more realistic desires for good weather have all featured in my day dreams. Earlier this year I shared my hopes and plans for this year. My Mom’s wedding was planned for early March and I said I hoped for either a snow filled day or one with lots of sunshine. Nothing in between. I guess you could say that one of those came true. Snow. So much snow. It really is a case of be careful what you wish for!

Be careful what you wish for

Snow covered landscape. Be careful what you wish for. It may unexpectedly come true in ways you hadn't imagined

Snowmageddon. The beast from the east. Whatever you want to call it, it certainly put a dampener on my spirits last week. The children were all off school and I was frantically trying to find the time for last minute wedding prep and falling short. We had over a foot of snow and I was worried we would not be able to make the 90 mile trip to the venue. I worked myself into quite a panic, knowing I would not be able to forgive myself if we couldn’t attend.

Thankfully Mr M is good at driving in adverse weather conditions and we made it in one piece. Sadly it meant that we could not have any photos taken outside and no group photos taken at all. Never the less it was a beautiful day and despite lack of photographic evidence it will be a day we don’t forget (for more reasons than one)

The wished for snow had another unexpected side effect. Our boiler broke down due to a frozen pipe causing a leak. Our newly painted dining room ceiling now has a large water mark and we were without heating as it dried out. Thank goodness for the log burner, which saved our bacon!

Hoping for a bit of help

Mr M post surgery. Be careful what you wish for!I have been struggling physically with the school runs of late. My hip joint throbs and feels so heavy that it is a huge effort to put one foot on front of the other. How I wished for some help with the school run. On Wednesday I got that help. In a most unexpected way. Mr M had to have a minor surgery on his hand and is now off work for the next 6 weeks. So, I don’t have to do the school run until he is back to work.

I quite like my own space during the day so am not sure how this will pan out. It’s great that he will be able to do the school run but on the other hand I foresee 6 weeks of watching Storage Hunters sending me slowly insane!

So, that’s our week. My wishes came true. “Lucky you” you might think but it didn’t pan out as I had hoped. You really should be careful what you wish for!

Have you ever had a wish come true in an unexpected way?

Welcome to the weekend

Oh my goodness, six weeks together at home can be tough! 😬😅 Lets hope you don’t have any more troubles on top of that now, and that the bleeping snow disappears! x #MMBC

6 weeks seems like an eternity!! The snow has now melted but it is predicted again for over the Easter break which is a blow x

  2. 17th March 2018 / 9:04 AM

It’s sad to read that there was no photographic evidence of the event and yes men do drive us women crazy. #mmbc

We did manage some individual pictures just no group photos or traditional ones of family groups. The light was so bad that it was just not possible but it didn’t take away from the day x

  3. 15th March 2018 / 8:27 PM

It’s funny how our wishes sometimes come true in such unexpected ways. I hope your mom had a wonderful wedding day and glad to hear you managed to get there in the snow. Hope your boiler is fixed soon as well and that Mr M’s hand heals well. #WotW

Thank you Louise, it was touch and go for a time but we are so glad that we made it x

  4. 13th March 2018 / 3:47 PM

I can’t think that I’ve ever had an unexpected wish come true but I definitely believe in ‘be careful what you wish for!’. #pocolo

You never know in what way your wish will come true!

  5. 12th March 2018 / 10:33 PM

Oo[s to the snow – bet you couldn’t believe that. Hope the boiler and ceiling is sorted, not great at all 🙁 Thanks for sharing with #PoCoLo

The boiler is sorted now (just in time for this weekend’s predicted snowmageddon part 2!)

  6. 12th March 2018 / 2:01 PM

‘Be careful what you wish for’ is such a throwaway saying, but also one that holds a lot of power.

Great to hear that the went well, despite the heavy snowfall! #WotW

I think we often say these phrases without really thinking about them but this time we really didn’t have the desired result!

  7. 12th March 2018 / 12:03 PM

Such a beautiful snow and sunshine photo. I like the snow but I hate to driving it. Gald you managed to get there ok 🙂

      12th March 2018 / 4:04 PM

Luckily for me I cannot drive so my husband had to tackle the snow and he did a great job

  8. 11th March 2018 / 12:31 PM

Despite the snow I’m glad you managed to get to the wedding! Good luck with sharing your space! #WotW

      12th March 2018 / 4:05 PM

Thank you. I’m thrilled so many of us managed to get there

  9. 10th March 2018 / 9:50 PM

Oh wow I bet that made the planning so hard, but glad you all got there and enjoyed the day. And yes when my hubby works from home he drives me mad as I never put the TV on in the day and he likes it on the background. I have a strict no tv rule in the day I cant stand it, I hope you both survive but hoorah for not doing the school run x

    • Louisa
      12th March 2018 / 4:09 PM

I don’t have the tv on at all in the day either, I find it much too distracting. Hopefully we will be able to reach a compromise!

  10. 10th March 2018 / 12:35 PM

Beautiful sunlit snowy photo – I love it! Sounds like a chaotic week.

    • Louisa
      12th March 2018 / 4:02 PM

Thank you. Chaotic describes it perfectly!

  11. 10th March 2018 / 9:53 AM

Isn’t that so true? Careful what you wish for. Wonderful that you made it to your mother’s wedding. Not an event to miss. I loved the snow, but am glad we only have little bits left lining the bottom of hedges, which looks pretty. Well done for getting your jacket finished. Now we need a few more spring days for you to wear it more. Hope you have a good week, and Mr H’s operation recovery goes well. #wotw

      12th March 2018 / 4:06 PM

Thank you Cheryl. I think my jacket will look great with jeans too, if only it will stop raining!

  12. 10th March 2018 / 6:32 AM

Hi Louise, so the snowfall was your fault?!! Next time make a wish for just a smattering of snow, enough to make everything look pretty. I hope you all had a great day despite the weather… I bet you nearly cried when the damp patch appeared on your newly painted ceiling! I know I would have, don’t look up!… Woodburners are such lifesavers, aren’t they? There is nothing worse than being cold (okay there are lots of things worse than feeling cold, but not at that time!)… I hope having your husband home doesn’t drive you totally bat crazy!… I can’t think of any wishes I’ve made that have unexpectedly come true, but I’m sure there have been.

    • Louisa
      12th March 2018 / 4:01 PM

Ha, yes the wet patch on the ceiling was just the icing on the cake! I think I would have moved into a hotel if we hadn’t got the log burner to keep us warm. All’s well that ends well in the end though and at least it’s something we will never forget x

  13. 9th March 2018 / 11:32 PM

So glad you made it to the wedding, I hate going anywhere in the snow. I remember wishing I could have help with the school run and now I haven’t been able to do it for a couple of years! It’s strange how the things you wish for don’t always turn out how you expect them to. x

    • Louisa
      12th March 2018 / 3:58 PM

Absolutely. Maybe we should be more specific in our wishes and put some disclaimers in them! Managing the snow on crutches has been very difficult so I imagine that your wheelchair is a thousand times harder x

    9th March 2018 / 9:42 PM

Oh yes I can see how in both of those occasions getting what you wished for was not quite getting what your heart was wishing for. I’m so glad you were able to make it to the wedding and hopefully you’ll fine some way to have a bit of alone/ me time each day.

    • Louisa
      12th March 2018 / 3:56 PM

I am glad that we made it although the circumstances were less than ideal

  15. 9th March 2018 / 8:47 PM

eek I know the feeling of needing that time to yourself. Phew to getting to your mum’s wedding and had a good day. X #wotw

Time to yourself is so important to keep your self balanced x

  16. 9th March 2018 / 2:39 PM

We had school off yesterday due to 12 inches of snow. It was pretty intense. I try to see it as an unplanned day at home! #pocolo

      12th March 2018 / 3:55 PM

We had 4 days off school over the week and it soon lost it’s novelty!

  17. 9th March 2018 / 2:31 PM

You do have to be careful what you wish for. . . as they can come true. Hope Mr M’s hand is healing. Congratulations on your mother’s wedding. Snow or no snow, people you love came together to celebrate a wonderful thing. That’s a beautiful thing.

    • Louisa
      12th March 2018 / 3:53 PM

Thank you. You are right, it is a beautiful thing to come together to celebrate their love

  18. 9th March 2018 / 1:59 PM

Ahh! I am glad you made it to the wedding…The weather really was terrible.
Thank goodness indeed for the log burner. Eek!
That’s great news about the school run….I like my own space too. I think my fella being home from work for 6 weeks would drive me mad. lol x #WotW

    • Louisa
      12th March 2018 / 3:52 PM

The log burner has saved us this week. I wouldn’t be without it x

  19. 9th March 2018 / 12:19 PM

All the best to your mum 🙂 Hope your husband soon gets better and you don’t drive each other nuts!

    • Louisa
      12th March 2018 / 3:51 PM

Thank you. At least I am prepared for being driven up the wall!

  20. 9th March 2018 / 9:41 AM

It’s good that you still managed to make it to the wedding despite the snow, it sounds like you had a lovely day. I know what you mean about time to yourself, my hubby would drive me up the wall if he was home for six weeks. Have a great weekend x

    • Louisa
      12th March 2018 / 3:49 PM

It was a wonderful day thank you x

  21. 9th March 2018 / 9:06 AM

Oh no! You definitely got what you wished for didn’t you! Pleased you managed to make it though. Good luck for the next 6 weeks, I like my own space and I’m not sure how I would cope with someone else in it everyday! #pocolo

    • Louisa
      12th March 2018 / 3:48 PM

At one stage it was touch and go as to whether we would make it but I am so glad that we did

  22. 9th March 2018 / 8:48 AM

Oh dear, not exactly as you’d wished for then! Glad you managed to get to your mum’s wedding and it sounds like it was a lovely day. I hope sharing your space for the next few weeks doesn’t drive you mad! Thanks for sharing with #WotW x

I have a feeling that sharing space will get more and ore frustrating the longer it goes on!
